The WordPress editor interface has me at sea. I’m not sure which room I’m in. I’m looking for a sink, but this is clearly not the kitchen.

One day I’ll get better at this and start actually putting down what I think I think. But right now I’m not convinced this is actually the place or the system for me. For instance, in a previous experience, I was able to compose text that wrapped around an inline image. Like this:

As you see, the image is wrapped by three consecutive paragraphs, the third paragraph wrapping under the image. If there’s an easy way to do that in the WordPress default “Gutenberg” editor, it is very well hidden. (If you know how to do it, leave a comment, please.) I’ve messed around with my “About” page on this site, and finally sort of do it with a “media and text” block. But the side-by-side protocol is severe in such a block, and a long paragraph does not wrap around the bottom of the image as in the third paragraph above, “ink is the great cure …”

(Yes, I’ve tried a “Classic” block, but the inline text wrapping does not survive the return to the block editor.)

Blogging used to be user friendly and not require anything like expertise. But now I suspect WordPress has to try to compete with every cool web developer’s suite, so awesome, power features overwhelm what should be a very simple exercise.

I wonder if someone has developed a “simple blogging” editor that can substitute for this WordPress monster. I think that guy could earn some money from low-tech, unambitious amateurs, who just wanna simple blogging experience.

At least that’s what I think I think.
